Members proposed that SOCP produce marketing materials for use by members to promote the maritime industry and attract potential mariners. In addition, it was suggested that SOCP post a mariner recruitment web page as well as produce other marketing information. The suggested idea was enthusiastically embraced and members proceeded to develop generic promotional materials that could be used in mariner recruitment and promote the maritime industry.Hard copy materials (i.e., brochures, educational information, and a public service announcement) were produced along with a co-sponsored video titled "U.S. Merchant Marine Serving America in Peace and War." The mariner recruitment web site called "A Career Afloat," was designed and launched in 2002. A powerpoint presentation was developed and made available via the website for member use in outreach activities.
