Project Title: Multimedia Training

The SOCP's multimedia training program was developed to instruct ship's officers on the proper process of preparing for and conducting USCG/ABS vessel inspections.

This training program was produced in modular form and contains an overview of the inspection process, database of inspection requirements, inspection "Do's and Don'ts" and lifeboat inspection procedures. Inspection requirements for other shipboard systems will be added as the project progresses.

The training program was produced on CD-ROM and is available for purchase by interested parties. The database portion of the program provides a record of all inspections and corrective actions taken by the ship's crew in preparing the ship for an inspection. This "record" is in a format that can be presented to an inspector as "proof" of the viability of the ship's program. This unique feature makes this training program a tool that can be used on an ongoing basis.

Training being the forte of wisdom -- time, location, and cost are the obstacles to be surmounted. Computer-Based Training (CBT) courses afford one the freedom to learn at one's own pace, at a location of choice and, of course, at a fraction of the cost.

Multimedia training programs offer the student an exciting opportunity to interact with text, audio, video and graphics. Statistics have shown that students can retain almost 30% more using multimedia than through conventional methods.

Future CBT plans include applications for:
