How will SOCP participate in the solutions of the year 2000 problem?

The SOCP has had Y2K discussion forums at its last two membership meetings and will continue this dialog at future meetings.  In addition, SOCP will be disseminating practical information regarding issues and solutions to the Y2K problem through this website.  Below is a menu of information contained on the SOCP Y2K website.

A growing number of nations have publicly stated that they will make IMO Circular 2121, Year 2000 Code of Good Practice, the basis for their Year 2000 enforcement policy in their ports. These include USA, Canada, Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Germany, UK, and others. In addition, the Coast Guard recently field tested its use of the IMO questionnaires in Circular 2121 in a contingency plan exercise conducted in Los Angeles/Long Beach. In this exercise, both ports, two major shipping companies, a towing company, and the vessel traffic information service, jointly exercised their contingency plans. After the exercise, the USCG published a Year 2000 Contingency Plan Exercise Guide which will serve as guidance for other Coast Guard Captain of the Port's to conduct similar exercises. Coast Guard has also conducted several Y2K exercises at U.S. ports. [Click here] to view the reports of there exercises.

The Coast Guard also published a temporary interim rule June 23, 1999 on Y2K reporting requirements for vessels and marine facilities. [Click here] for more details about these activities.
